Her lips bowing into a grin,
She was walking towards him;
Drawn into a confusing din,
His recall at once turned dim.
He knew that he knew her,
But couldn't say who she was;
What greeting could he offer?
Were it a quiz, he'd readily pass.
Once more, he'd to play the game,
Not betray to her, her new anonymity;
Unable to scrabble even her name,
How could he hope to brook her pity?
Had she always looked the same?
Had she aged, or changed somehow?
He tripped onto a charming claim,
He would tell her she was fitter now.
