"Lord, may worthies not emerge,
May there be no detours, or blocks,
May there not be a traffic surge,
If possible, do slow down the clocks!"
Thus he very briefly prayed,
Before he departed on his mission;
He had no time to be afraid,
Admit the risk in his every decision.
On the way, he'd remained firm,
Not asked how the patient was faring;
In the traffic, he had to squirm,
To reach the address, the siren blaring.
He hoped he was not too late,
And tried to focus on the drive ahead;
Yet, as he looked to the gate,
He had one more prayer to be said.
"Whatever it is from which they ail,
May not its cause and cure be obscure;
If we fail, may your mercy prevail,
Bless us that life and faith may endure."
May there be no detours, or blocks,
May there not be a traffic surge,
If possible, do slow down the clocks!"
Thus he very briefly prayed,
Before he departed on his mission;
He had no time to be afraid,
Admit the risk in his every decision.
On the way, he'd remained firm,
Not asked how the patient was faring;

To reach the address, the siren blaring.

He had one more prayer to be said.
"Whatever it is from which they ail,
May not its cause and cure be obscure;
If we fail, may your mercy prevail,
