The Ineffable...

As planned, I did kneel,
Held out the glittering ring;
I’d to say what I did feel,
But, my thoughts did swing.

What it seemed now,
It hadn’t, the previous night;
What I’d meant to avow,
Seemed too shallow to be right.

No sooner did I stand,
I was sure and didn’t linger;
I merely took her hand,
Slid the ring up her finger.

Was I being earnest,
Had I merely leased delusion?
When was I honest,
In certainty, or in confusion?

Stood  on her tiptoes,
She pecked me on my cheek,
Then held me very close,
Before she did finally speak.

“In that each has an opposite,
Words are ever refutable;
How could they be apposite,
To convey the immutable?”
