The Telling Symptom...

Despite all I've understood,
I fail to simply withdraw;

I know, I know I should,
But in awe, I hem and haw.

My awe for her is but fair,
For it wasn't deduced;
Yet, it is my major care,
Refusing to be reduced.

I keep making my plea,
And she does decline,
Yet, we have an amity,
My awe won't resign.

It's not singing her name,
The same notes I strum,
But the loss of my shame,
That's the telling symptom.
