The rumble, louder it did grow,
Was it the sky? Or, the ground?
I did wish that I was in the know.
Dazed, jostled, unable to pick a way,
My feet unwilling to take the lead,
My mind, rattled, it could only pray.
Then, only slightly, I sensed a tug,
Faces continued to splash my sight,
Till my eyes shut; I was in your hug.
A cup of coffee, in the right shade,
Sinking into the cozy arm chair,
The calm of your smile did pervade.
I heard what till then I only did see,
Moving words off your moving lips,
Helping me recognize the travesty.
As I grinned, in our shared silence,
I could hear them flutter again,
Hope's leaves - dancing in defiance.
