In The Crosshair Of Dreams...

Wrapped in a gaze,
Feeling trapped in a maze,
I did yearn to be free,
Knew I couldn't possibly flee.

The light wouldn't fade,
Rayed on what was mislaid
- Moments of hocus pocus,
Dazed, I failed to focus.

In each and every glance,
There was something to covet;
Too brief to be a romance,
I just couldn't begin to love it.

Gaze stretched to a stare,
I did begin to scare,
Fright popping where I did see,
The one-eyed vigil not letting me be.

That's when I hit upon it,
What had hidden from my wit:
I'd only to close my eyes
To let thoughts pass like the skies.

That seemed matter-of-fact,
And I decided to act,
To sit still, my eyes shut -
A shield against the info glut.

With time, the stare felt spent,
Did Cyclops relent?
But, my eyes blinked to flickers,
And I felt teased by snickers.

My peace was soon fluff,
Closing my eyes wasn't enough;
I half opened my right eye,
Hoping to see what had gone awry.

Many a cosmic dollop,
Seemingly sizing me up,
I was the object of a million looks,
Peeps from a million nooks.

Dreams itching to devour,
Twitching to scout and scour,
With eyes that pry as they shine
For the next one in the line.
