They only have to pirouette,
A restrained turn on their toes,
Never leaving where they're at,
Holding a single lamp that glows.
In their fore, drama does unfold,
The fair maiden does glide,
Dancing the tale to be told,
Leaping and spinning,
being more than a blushing bride,
She shimmies up her presence,
Filling the stage and view,
Before returning to reticence,
For a night, to renew.
The maiden exiting the stage,
Carrying a torch for her,
His love for her easy to gauge,
He makes to go after.
The hero, in his garb of gold,
Hasn't only to vaunt his pride,
He has virtues to uphold,
Even as he does swing and slide.
So, he holds back, lets her leave,
Then burns a more brilliant flame,
Wanting the audience to believe,
His desire, suddenly, he can't tame.
He tap-tours the stage - crazed,
Lighting up every nook,
Those who only turned and gazed,
Break for a gobbledygook.
His beloved still unseen,
Every direction now enquired,
The fire growing ever less keen,
He readies to retire - tired.
The stage all hers,
She rises to dazzle again,
Joined by the coy turners,
And the act repeats
to eternally entertain.
