That Final Leap ...

I ditched designing the jet boot,
And I put the scarlet cape away;
I stopped stitching up the chute,
When you said clouds were my sleigh.

The wings and tails, and the blades,
The meters and every thingamajig,
Some, months old, others decades,
The gifts of many a techno-sprig,
I'd stashed them to build my ride,
A task that'd see gravity defied;
This, before you said I could glide,
Without any laws of physics plied.

I've made a list of the sights,
Stars, streams and snowy sweeps,
The rangoli lines of city lights,
The mountains, the discordant beeps?

Wait! Won't you sing me the lullaby
And put me back to sleep?
I almost did it, I did nearly fly,
Let me take that final leap...
