Information, or In-formation..?

'Obama-the first Black US President...

'Prathibha Patil- the first WomanRashtrapathi...

'Hamilton- the first,(yep! you guessed it),Black driver to win an F1 GP...

..and so the list goes.

I have always been an ardent follower of the NEWS, be it Print, or the Audio-Visual media. In fact, my acquaintance with English, albeit very remote, is a consequence of years of religiously reading the morning papers, and more recently tuning to the 24hr News Services on TV. I must firstly thank all the editors and the journos for that!

But it is this very association that peeves me at the current state of the Fourth Estate. The phrase 'News Makers' seems to have acquired a more revolutionary, but ridiculous meaning with the TRPs, or catching-viewer-eyeballs, now being the Deity enshrined in the Editor's cabin. The few headlines mentioned at the top of this post clearly highlight the rising trend of sensationalizing information.

I know, these events are 'historical' and 'monumental' but why try to bring the dead back to life? If equality is what we are,in deed, trying to herald, do we need to make it seem so shallow? My love for puns and sarcasm just can't stop me from reading these headlines as-'Obama was made President for he was balck, or, Ms.Patil, the Rashtrapathi owing to her gender!'.Is there a need to state the fact, that the World Order is changing, as a backhanded complement to the 'generosity' of the fanatics for having given up their innate right of somekind? Can we not just admire the pleasant wind and just move on, rather than saying, 'it no longer stinks!'? I sure hope NEWS will once again begin to mean information than in-formation..
