History & Heritage-The Hype And Misuse Of Public Money.

This post is in reaction of the Indian Cultural Ministry's reported plan to bid for a manuscript of Gandhi, now in the possession of the renowned auctioneers The Christie's.The letter, dated 11th of Jan. 1948, penned by Gandhi apparently for his journal,Harijan, calling for a more moderate treatment of the Muslim population has been hyped to be the last piece of literature written by the stringent advocate of non-violence,before his infamous assassination by Ghodse,a Hindu fanatic.Historians, though, beg to differ citing his contributions to the journal, much closer to the D-Day.
Gandhi, hailed as he is by many,as the Father of the nation, largely due to the arguable belief that he was almost single handedly responsible for unshackling India from colonial rule, does without doubt command an important position in the nation's history.Having said that,I still do not fall in line with the masses in accepting this manuscript as an important part of the nation's heritage, with all due respect to Gandhi and his followers, simply because I do not find it justifiable in any manner for the Indian exchequer to actually fund thousands of pounds in conjunction with the cited auction.Gandhi is by no means a brand and it would only be fair to the man,to spare his soul the defamation of squandering public money.Gandhi is unquestionably India's best known son,but India does have its own identity, which would in no way be jeopardized by ignoring this materialization of the "Mahatma's" life.
