The ongoing Quota fiasco surely has enlightened me about the ideology,or the lack of it ,among the Grey haired Oligarchy of this supposedly "democratic & secular" nation viz. INDIA.It's not been long since my Social Science teacher taught me about the political parties ;As per the text-book a political party is an umbrella sheltering people having the same political notion.
The decision of the Congress party to implement the mandal report, something which it had viciously opposed under the leadership of its 'bright','young','visionary' leader,Rajiv Gandhi, who had criticized the very basis on which the report had been framed, certainly implies one of the following two things -either the congress has lost sight of it's ideology(after all it is the oldest political party in India and could well be suffering from senile discomforts!) or the allure of perpetual rule by wooing the vote banks is too much for even its "selfless" leaders to cope with.
Something even more disgusting is lack of will(senile discomfort)of even the "Opposition",which is always ready to pounce on the Govt. with the most cynical of arguments ,to take up the cudgels on behalf of the protesters due to the fear,of what else?,but losing the vote bank!
In view of all these developments ,I've sometimes pondered over the merits of having an authoritative yet functional rule than a pseudo democracy(read oligarchy) with these irrational politicians at the helm, trying hard to assert backwardness.
Yet there is a silver lining-
"Be proud of being a General Merit student, because the rest of this country is backward!"
